KIEV, Feb. 25 – The deficit of Ukraine's balance of payments in January was $1.057 billion, 41.3% down from January 2009, when the deficit was estimated at $1.801 billion, the National Bank of Ukraine reported, citing preliminary estimates.

However, the deficit of the balance of payments in January 2010 compared to December 2009 soared by 4.8 times, up from $221 million.
