Metinvest shuts Mariupol plant following environmental protests

KIEV, Nov. 15 - Ukraine’s largest mining and steel group, Metinvest, shut down its sinter plant in Mariupol for a month, responding to massive protests about the poor environment in the region, the company reported Thursday.


Ukraine will reduce Russian natgas imports next year, says official

KIEV, Nov. 16 - Ukraine will reduce imports of natural gas from Russia next year after starting alternative imports of gas from Europe, Vadym Chuprun, deputy head of Naftogaz Ukrayiny, said Friday.


Ukrainian crude oil processing on track to fall 4.4% this year

KREMENCHUK, Nov. 17 – Ukraine’s five operating oil refineries and the Shebelinka gas plant (Kharkiv region) will have processed around 11 million tons of crude by the end of 2010, 4.4% or 500,000 tons less than last year.

Tanker starts to unload crude for pipeline shipment to Belarus

KIEV, Nov. 18 - An oil tanker docked and started to unload its crude oil at Ukraine’s Pivdenniy oil terminal near Odessa to be sent to Belarus via the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline, an official at the terminal said Thursday.

KIEV, Nov. 18 – The State Treasury has received $1.3 billion as part of the conversion of Special Drawing Rights allocated by the International Monetary Fund to the country, Regions Party MP Mykhailo Papiyev said.

Russian pipe trade group speaks out against bilateral agreement

MOSCOW, Nov. 18 – The Russian Pipe Industry Development Foundation has said that it is inexpedient to prolong an agreement signed between the Russian Ministry for Economic Development and Trade and the Ukrainian Economy Ministry on settlement of supplies of some types of steel pipes from Ukraine to Russia.


Ukraine’s GDP rose 2.9% over prior quarter in third quarter

KIEV, Nov. 18 – Ukraine's GDP showed a 2.9% rise in Q3 against Q2, according the Economy Ministry said on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, in Q2, 2009 the growth was higher from Q1, 2009 – 3.9%, while in Q1, 2009 the fall of 13.3% was registered from the previous quarter.
