46 coal mines to close as part of planned government restructuring

KIEV, July 18 – It is planned to shut down 46 coal mines in Donetsk and Luhansk regions as a part restructuring the coal industry through 2017, Natalia Zinkevych, director of the labor and employment market of the said Social Policy Ministry.

Russia’s GSPI to study feasibility of Ukraine nuclear fuel plant

KIEV, July 19 - Ukrainian Research and Design Institute for Industrial Technology (Zhovti Vody, Dnipropetrovsk region) wants to attract open joint-stock company State Special Project Institute (GSPI, Russia) as a subcontractor to draw up of a feasibility study for the construction of a nuclear fuel production plant in Ukraine, the Economic Development and Trade Ministry reported.


Government panel calls for 0.5% reduction in gasoline price ceiling

KIEV, July 20 – An expert and analytical group on the functioning of the fuel market and oil sector development under the Cabinet of Ministers has reduced the recommended ceiling price of A-95 gasoline by 0.5% or five kopecks, to UAH 9.85 per liter.


Finance ministry cites Moody’s forecast of 3.3% GDP rise this year

KIEV, July 19 – The growth of real gross domestic product (GDP) in Ukraine in 2010 may hit 3.3% and may further speed up to 4.5% in 2011, according to the results of a forecast by Moody's Investors Service that have been posted on the official Web site of the Ukrainian Finance Ministry.

Losses continue to mount after collapse of Karya-Tour Ukraine

KIEV, July 19 – The Association of Tourism Business Leaders as of July 16 has received over 40 applications from travel agencies affected by the collapse of the Karya-Tour Ukraine travel agency.

The association reported last week that the total sum of the debt to tourists exceeds UAH 1.4 million, and new applications are arriving.


Agriculture ministry forecasts 40 million-ton grain harvest this year

KIEV, July 20 – The Agriculture Ministry has said it hopes the country will harvest over 43 million tons of grain this year, despite the wet weather that is hindering the harvesting campaign.
