UkrFA and UkrMet plan to unite to fight metals sector crisis

KIEV, Oct. 20 – The Ukrainian Association of Ferroalloy Producers (UkrFA) and the Ukrainian Association of Ferrous Metals Producers (UkrMet) plan to unite in order to jointly draw up ways to overcome the crisis in the domestic metals sector.

ZAPORIZHIA, Oct. 21 – Zaporizhia Aluminum Combine (ZAlK), the country's only aluminum smelter, forecasts losses of $10 million in October, according to its leadership.


Moody’s lowers global, national ratings of 12 Ukrainian banks

LONDON, Oct. 21 - International rating agency Moody's Investors Service has downgraded the global local currency (GLC) deposit ratings and the National Scale Ratings (NSRs) of 12 Ukrainian banks.

Moody's said in a press release that it had "also changed the outlook to stable from positive on the B2 long-term global foreign currency (GFC) deposit ratings of 21 Ukrainian banks."

KIEV, Oct. 18 – There are economic grounds for strengthening the hryvnia, although the economy's reaction to such a move should be taken into account when setting policy, said National Bank of Ukraine Chairman Volodymyr Stelmakh.


Domestic consumption of rolled steel projected to grow 26% this year

KIEV, Oct. 19 - Ukraine’s domestic consumption of rolled steel is expected to grow by 26% year-on-year to 11 million metric tons in 2007, up from about 8.8 million tons consumed in 2006, an industrial policy ministry official said Friday.

The country’s growing economy, led by booming construction and industrial modernization, spurs domestic demand for steel, allowing the country’s steelmaker to supply more steel to domestic consumers.


Ukraine's GDP grows 3.5% on year in August, accelerating from July

KYIV, Sept 18 – Ukraine's gross domestic product (GDP) growth in August 2024 compared to August of the previous year was 3.5% [±1%], which is better than the June and July figures of 1.1% and 2.7%, respectively, but lower than the April and May figures of 4.3% and 3.7%, according to preliminary assessments released by the Ministry of Economy on Wednesday.


Ukraine’s wheat harvest amounts to 22-mln mt in 2024-2025 marketing season

KYIV, Sept 18 – The wheat harvest in Ukraine in 2024 amounted to 22 million tons, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food agreed with producers and traders that exports will not exceed 16.2 million tons, which guarantees the availability of 6 million tons of this crop necessary for domestic consumption.


DTEK to use own funds to prepare for winter as $40-mln aid comes late

KYIV, Sept 18 – Within preparation for the heating season 2024-2025, DTEK energy holding can rely primarily on its own efforts, since external assistance, which is currently estimated at $40 million, or 10% of needs, will arrive later, said Executive Director Dmytro Sakharuk.
