Government VAT bonds being priced unrealistically, says EBRD official

KIEV, June 21 - Enterprises could sell government domestic loan bonds received as reimbursement for VAT due to the interest to this instrument in the financial markets, but a discount of 20-30% would be unfair with regard to the enterprises, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Director for Ukraine Andre Kuusvek said.


Applications for VAT refunds in government bonds fall short of hopes

KIEV, June 21 - Ukrainian companies as of June 17 have submitted applications for value added tax refunds in government domestic loan bonds worth only UAH 5.2 billion, said Oleksiy Liubchenko, deputy chief of Ukraine's State Tax Administration.


Kiev city officials plan to raise heat and hot water tariffs in July

KIEV, June 23 – Kiev City State administration plans to raise tariffs for hot running water and heat supplies for Kiev residents starting July 1, returning to the tariff rates in effect until October 1, 2009, Deputy Kiev City State Administration Head Anatoliy Holubchenko said.

Moody’s downgrades credit ratings of three banks, concluding review

MOSCOW, June 22 - Moody's Investors Service has downgraded the ratings of three Ukrainian banks - PrivatBank, Savings Bank of Ukraine (Oschadbank) and Ukreximbank, the ratings agency said in a statement.


Economy ministry: Inflation will reach 12.4% in Ukraine next year

KIEV, June 22 – The Economy Ministry admits that inflation in Ukraine will reach 12.4% in 2010.

"The government's first priority is to achieve macroeconomic stability… The expected results are to bring the consumer price index in 2010 to 12.4%, in 2013 to 5.2 – 5.5% (December over December)," read draft economic policy guidelines for 2010 and 2011-2013.


Poll shows steady fall in Tymoshenko Bloc popularity ratings

KIEV, June 23 – There has been a steadily fall in the BYT party rating and slight growth of the popularity of the People’s Union Our Ukraine party, according to a new poll.

The poll conducted by the National Institute for Strategic Studies, the director of the Institute, Yuriy Ruban, said at a press conference in Kiev on Monday.


State and corporate foreign debt reaches 61% of GDP in first quarter

KIEV, June 23 - Ukraine's gross state and corporate foreign debt grew by $8 billion to $92.5 billion in January to March, reaching 61% of GDP, compared to 60.2% of GDP in 2007, the National Bank of Ukraine said.

The foreign debt attributed to the Ukrainian banking sector increased by 9.8% or $3 billion, in Q1, and that of various non-state economic sectors – by $4.6 billion or 12%, reads the report.


Yuzhnoye Design and Yuzhmash readying new engine for Vega rocket

KIEV, June 20 – State Yuzhnoye Design Office and Yuzhmash Production Association (both based in Dnipropetrovsk) are preparing to supply the first operational rocket engine for the new European Vega launcher, Yuzhnoye Chief Designer Volodymyr Shniakin told Interfax-Ukraine.
