Naftogaz wants deals with European firms

KYIV, Aug 26 – Naftogaz Ukrayiny wants long-term capacity bookings of the Ukrainian gas transmission system by European companies this autumn but is ready to prolong the current agreement with Gazprom after its expiry in 2024, Naftogaz Ukrayiny CEO Yuriy Vitrenko said.


Regulator opposes increasing capacity of solar, wind power plants by households

KYIV, Aug 22 - The National Commission for Energy, Housing and Utilities Services Regulation (NCER) has opposed increasing the installed capacity of solar and wind power plants installed by households, according to the proposals of the regulator to the draft law on feed-in tariffs.

Imported rail cargo shipments up 2.1% this year, government reports

KIEV, Aug. 26 – Turnover of imported cargo shipments by rail to Ukraine in 2015 is projected at 19.336 billion ton-kilometers, which is 2.1% up on 2014 and the largest total since 1996.

According to an explanatory note to the financial plan of Ukrainian railways for 2015, which has been posted on the Infrastructure Ministry's website, the key goods that will be imported to Ukraine are coal, fuel and ore.


Monopolists causing higher fertilizer prices, trade minister twitters

KIEV, Aug. 26 – Prices of fertilizers in Ukraine are 26-74% higher than global prices due to artificially created restrictions, Economic Development and Trade Minister Aivaras Abromavicius wrote on his Twitter page.


NBU announces it added 2.2 tons of gold to its reserves last month

KIEV, Aug. 26 – The National Bank of Ukraine has announced that on July 1 it bought around 70,000 troy ounces of gold or around 2.2 tons.

The central bank said that its official gold reserve has been returned to the level of October 2014 – 0.84 million troy ounces or around 26.1 tons.


Government calls for sale of EnergoAtom, ZoryaMashproekt stakes

KIEV, Aug. 26 – The Ukrainian government has called for Parliament to give the green light to the privatization of up to 40% of state-owned EnergoAtom nuclear power generation company and Zorya-Mashproekt gas turbine manufacturer if the National Security and Defense Council and the Cabinet of Ministers take corresponding decisions.


Fitch lowers Ukraine currency rating, citing eastern instability

KIEV, Aug. 26 - Fitch Ratings has downgraded Ukraine's Long-term local currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR) to 'CCC' from 'B-' and affirmed its Long-term foreign currency IDR at 'CCC'.
