Poland not interested in Odessa pipeline extension, PM tells Facebook
KIEV, Jan. 30 – Poland believes that now there is no purpose in prolonging the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline to Plock, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov told Facebook users on January 27.
"We have several times proposed to our Polish partners [to finish the pipeline], although now they do not believe that this is an appropriate thing for them," he said. |
Former finance minister warns of tough international borrowing

Interpipe plans external financing to build Dnipropetrovsk facility
DAVOS, Jan. 31 – Interpipe Pipe and Wheel Company plans to regain access to external financing soon thanks to the completion of its debt restructuring, which would allow the company to accelerate the launch of a project to build the Dniprostal electrometallurgic production facility (Dnipropetrovsk), according to Hennadiy Hazin, EastOne CEO and president. |
Le Figaro reportedly issues retraction of article about Akhmetov
KIEV, Jan. 29 – The French daily newspaper Le Figaro on Friday issued a retraction of a previously published false report regarding Rinat Akhmetov, a Ukrainian businessman and political leader, and apologized to him for publishing untrue information, according to a statement released by the Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP law firm. |
Government reports UAH20 billion national deficit for last year
KIEV, Jan. 28 – The Ukrainian national budget in 2009 saw a UAH 19.866 billion deficit, which is 37% less than the target (UAH 31.563 billion), according to the Finance Ministry.
The ministry says that in January-December 2009 the consolidated budget (national and local budgets) posted a UAH 21.606.9 billion deficit.

Vorskla Steel project to take longer than expected, company says
KIEV, Jan. 29 – The realization of a project of Cypriot Vorskla Steel, which established a 100% subsidiary Vorskla Steel KFT (Hungary, both affiliated with Ukrainian owner of Ferrexpo mining company Kostiantyn Zhevaho) will take 7.5-8 years instead of five years as it was planned earlier, Zhevaho said in an interview with the Focus magazine. |
