KYIV, May 29 - Hryvnia-pegged deposit rates could continue the downward trend, according to bankers polled by Interfax-Ukraine.

Deputy Board Chairman of bank Credit Dnepr Andriy Moiseyenko said that if the political and macro-economic stability remains deposit rates could fall by 1-1.5 percentage points (p.p.) this year.


Ukraine’s real wages increase 12.5% on year in April: report

KYIV, May 30 - Real wages in Ukraine increased by 12.5% on the year in April and 0.4% from March, the State Statistics Service reported.

The average nominal wage of full-day workers in April 2018 compared to March 2018 increased by 1.2%, in annual terms rose by 27.3%, amounting to UAH 8,382, whereas in March it was UAH 8,382, February UAH 7,828, January some UAH 7,711.


Ukrzaliznytsia to create separate rail car company to buy 3,500 cars/year

KYIV, May 31 – Ukraine’s state railroad company Ukrzaliznytsia plans to create a separate rail car company, which in 2018 and 2019 would buy 3,500 cars each year using a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), acting Board Chairman of Ukrzaliznytsia Yevhen Kravtsov said at the UZ: Investor Day 2018 conference in Odesa on Wednesday.


Ukraine’s central bank may toughen monetary policy if inflation rises

KYIV, May 31 – The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) could toughen its monetary policy and introduce some currency restrictions if the inflation pressure worsens and if Ukraine fails to receive the new tranche from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), NBU Governor Yakiv Smolii said.
