DTEK Trading wins tender to supply coal to Lviv’s Zakhidenergo

KIEV, March 1 - DTEK Trading (Donetsk) has won a tender to supply 3.55 million tons of coal to Zakhidenergo (Lviv) in 2011, according to a posting on the Economic Development and Trade Ministry's Web site.

DTEK Trading and Zakhidenergo on February 7 signed a contract worth UAH 3.706 billion (including VAT).


Import duties could cause fuel price spike, says Tax Service

KIEV, March 1 – The introduction of fuel import duties without settling other issues influencing the formation of the oil market and the creation of a competitive environment on the market could lead to an increase in fuel prices and the growth in the share of counterfeit fuel in the country, according to a report by Ukraine’s State Tax Service.


Naftogaz Ukrayiny returns about 7 bcm of natural gas to RosUkrEnergo

KIEV, March 1 – Naftogaz Ukrayiny, in pursuance of a ruling by the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, has returned about seven billion cubic meters of natural gas to Swiss-registered gas trader RosUkrEnergo, Naftogaz CEO Yevhen Bakulin told reporters.


Output of Ukraine defense plants up 58% in 2009, government reports

KIEV, March 1 – The output of Ukrainian defense plants grew by 58% in 2009, which would unable Ukraine to rank as the world's sixth largest arms trader, the Industrial Policy Ministry's Defense Sector Agency said.


Demand for foreign currency down this month, according to NBU

KIEV, Feb. 26 – Demand for foreign currency in February shrank, which is conducive to the strengthening of the hryvnia, the National Bank of Ukraine said.

"There has been a gradual decline in net demand for both cash and non-cash foreign currency since the beginning of February," the NBU said.


Ukrainian booze production down 11%, trade association reports

KIEV, Feb. 26 – Ukraine produced 55.3 million decaliters of liquor and vodka in 2009, an 11% decrease, the Ukrvodka association announced.

The association said that exports of liquor and vodka last year went down by 18%, to 7.2 million decaliters.


Zorya-Mashproekt to invest over $12.5 million on production upgrades

KIEV, Feb. 26 - Zorya-Mashproekt gas turbine scientific and industrial complex plans to invest over $12.5 million (over UAH 96 million) in the upgrade of production facilities in 2010, which is almost double the amount invested in 2009.


Govt: Spring crop cultivation area not expected to change this year

KIEV, March 1 – Ukraine will sow spring crops on some 15.6 million hectares in 2010, the same as in 2009, to the calculations of the Agriculture Ministry.

"We expect that spring crops will be sown on at least the same amount as last year, and this is 15.6 million hectares," Deputy Agriculture Minister Serhiy Melnyk told the press in Kiev.
