Wages fell 9.1% in May, according to State Statistics Committee
KIEV, June 30 - Actual year-on-year wages in Ukraine fell in May by 9.1%, while in May 2008 they grew 6%, the State Statistics Committee reported.
According to the committee, the average nominal wage in May 2009 was UAH 1,851, which is a 4.3% rise against May 2008 and 0.3% compared to April 2009. |
NERC to remove price ceilings for industrial, govt gas consumers
KIEV, June 30 – The National Electricity Regulatory Commission plans to revise the ceiling prices of natural gas for industrial consumers and budget organizations for 2009.
The issue has been included on the agenda of an extraordinary open meeting of the commission scheduled for July 1. |
Foreign statutory capital share of Ukrainian banks down in May
KIEV, June 27 – The share of foreign capital in Ukrainian bank statutory capital in May shrank to 35.5%, from 36.3% in April.
As the National Bank of Ukraine reported, the banks' aggregate registered statutory capital in May 2008 grew by 2.3%, or by UAH1.144 billion, to UAH51.483 billion. Since the beginning of the year, their capital has increased by 20.1%, or UAH8.61 billion.

Polish official expresses interest in Ukraine nuclear cooperation
KIEV, June 27 – Poland is interested in cooperation with Ukraine in the nuclear power engineering sector, Wojciech Zajaczkowski, an advisor to the Polish prime minister, said during a meeting with Yuriy Nedashkovsky, president of the national nuclear generating company Energoatom. |
Wizz Air receives operating certificate from aviation administration
KIEV, July 1 – Wizz Air Ukraine, a subsidiary of the Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air, has received an air operator's certificate from the State Aviation Administration.
According to a company's press release, on the same day its first aircraft Airbus 320 landed in Ukraine.

Estonia’s Aeroc International to invest in concrete production
KIEV, July 1 - Estonia's Aeroc International plans in early 2009 to launch a second porous concrete production line on the basis of Obukhiv porous concrete plant in Kiev region, Yana Honcharenko, commercial director of Kiev-based Aeroc Ltd., a daughter company of Aeroc International, told Interfax-Ukraine.
She said that the production capacity of the line would be 200,000 cubic meters per year.
Honcharenko did not disclose investment in the launch of the second line, adding that investment would be disclosed after its launch. |
It’s official: Chernivtsi’s the place, according to Focus magazine
KIEV, July 1 – Chernivtsi has been declared the best city to live in Ukraine, according to Focus magazine.
A total of 55 Ukrainian cities were analyzed in the rating.
The editorial staff of the magazine, jointly with the experts, rated participants according to 15 criteria, in particular: the development of infrastructure, the level of criminality, the ecological situation, tourism and investment attractiveness, and the average salary. |
Proposal for pipeline caused by nearsighted policy: Ministry
KIEV, June 27 - A declaration on building South Stream, a radical new route for transporting natural gas from Russia to Europe bypassing traditional transit countries is a logical result of Ukraine's nearsighted policy, the Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Ministry told Interfax.
