Ukraine may issue immigrant visas to 5,000 IT professionals

KYIV, Feb 28 – The Cabinet of Ministers has supported the quota for the immigration of 5,000 highly qualified specialists from abroad for employment in Ukrainian IT companies, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov reported on his Telegram channel.

Akhmentov company rejects Russian seizure

KIEV, March 2 - A company controlled by billionaire Rinat Akhmetov, Ukraine's richest man, said on March 2 that the seizure of some of its assets by Russia-backed separatists in the eastern part of the country is "unacceptable," Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported.

KIEV, Feb. 28 - The Illich Iron and Steel Works in Mariupol, part of the Metinvest Group, estimates its losses from the blockade of rail lines leading to Donbas at UAH 4 million ($148,000) a day, plant CEO Yuriy Zinchenko said.


Naftogaz appeals court ruling boosting Russian pipeline use boost

KIEV, March 2 – Naftogaz Ukrayiny has appealed to the General Court of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) with a request for leave to intervene in the case initiated by Poland's PGNiG Supply & Trading (PGNiG ST), which challenges the decision of the European Commission of 28 October 2016 related to the OPAL pipeline. The decision effectively enables Russia's Gazprom to significantly increase the use of OPAL capacity and deliver more gas through the Nord Stream pipeline.


NBU relaxes some bank client procedures for sending currency abroad

KIEV, March 2 – The National Bank of Ukraine has relaxed the procedure for purchasing foreign currency by clients of banks and sending funds abroad to nonresidents.


Household 'social' natural gas prices set to rise 53% in April

KIEV, March 1 – Head of the National Commission of Ukraine for Energy, Housing and Utilities Services Regulation (NCER) Dmytro Vovk forecasts that the so-called social price of gas for households – a discounted price for the first 200 cubic meters of gas consumed by households during the heating season – will be increased by 53%, or UAH 1,900, to UAH 5,500 per 1,000 cubic meters with VAT from April 1, 2016.


NBU reports $120 million balance of payments surplus for January

KIEV, March 1 – The surplus of Ukraine's balance of payment in January 2016 reached $120 million, while a year ago its deficit was $890 million, the National Bank of Ukraine reported.
