Ukraine reports $468 million April surplus, vs $859 million deficit

KIEV, June 1 - The surplus of Ukraine's consolidated balance of payments was $468 million in April 2016, while a month earlier the deficit was $859 million, and in April 2015 some $168 million, according to a statement on the website of the National Bank of Ukraine.

Fitch affirms and withdraws UkrSibbank 'CCC' foreign currency rating

KIEV, May 29 - Fitch Ratings has affirmed UkrSibbank's (UkrSib) Long-term foreign currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR) at 'CCC.'

Simultaneously, Fitch withdrew UkrSib's ratings as the bank had chosen to stop participating in the rating process, Fitch said in a statement.


Trade ministry seeking help on conversion to international standards

KIEV, May 29 – The Economic Development and Trade Ministry has called on businesses and all interested parties to participate in Ukraine's switch to European and international standards.


Fitch Ratings forecasts 5% GDP contraction for Ukraine this year

KIEV, May 30 - Fitch Ratings forecasts that Ukraine's GDP will contract by 5% in 2014.

"The crisis will continue to weigh on Ukraine's economy. We forecast GDP to contract by 5% this year. Ex-Crimea, industrial production shrank 6% year on year in April, and consumer spending is well down, especially in the east. Inflation in April was 3.3%, but Fitch expects it to rise due to gas tariffs and pass-through of exchange rate depreciation. Public finances are under pressure but the government has increased tax collection and contained spending, narrowing the fiscal deficit," the agency said.


METRO wholesale centers reported back to work after lootings

KIEV, June 2 – The METRO wholesale center in Luhansk and three centers in Donetsk region, apart from the center near the Donetsk airport, which had been looted on May 28, have been back to work as usual and servicing clients since May 30, said METRO Cash & Carry Ukraine LLC (Kiev), part of Germany's METRO Group.


US planning to provide $18 million to strengthen Ukraine's security

10 large Chinese factories may set up in Ukraine, says business group

KIEV, June 2 – Around 10 large Chinese factories are mulling considering placing production facilities in Ukraine, including well-known household appliance manufacturers, Chinese Business Association President Oleksandr Hromyko said during the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the State Agency for Investment and National Project Management and the Chinese Business Association.

KIEV, May 30 – The Moscow Exchange supports the merger of the leading Ukrainian stock exchanges – the PFTS and the Ukrainian Exchange (both based in Kiev) - and believes that Ukrainian shareholders in the exchanges should decide on this.
