Hryvnia could hold steady for several weeks, says NBU official

KIEV, Sept. 4 – The hryvnia exchange rate could stay at the present level for several weeks, acting first deputy head of the National Bank of Ukraine Oleksandr Pisaruk said.

Skhidny Mining reports uranium concentrate production up 0.2% in H1

KIEV, Sept. 4 - Skhidny Mining (Zhovti Vody, Dnipropetrovsk region) produced 421 tons of uranium concentrate in H1, which is 0.2% up year-over-year (420 tons), the Atomnyk Ukrayiny newspaper says, referring to a report acting director of Skhidny Mining, Oleksandr Sorokin, made at a meeting of the company's workers.


Ukraine falls by 11 places in Global Competitive Index to 84th

KIEV, Sept. 4 – Ukraine has slipped by 11 places in the Global Competitiveness Index published on Wednesday by the World Economic Forum, to 84th among 148 countries.

The authors of the GCI say that putting economic growth on a more stable footing in future will require Ukraine to address important challenges. Arguably, the country’s most important challenge is the needed overhaul of its institutional framework, which suffers from red tape, a lack of transparency, and favoritism, says the report.


Naftogaz disputes reports it owes money to Ukrainian government

KIEV, Sept. 4 – Naftogaz Ukrayiny has denied media reports of its debt to Ukraine's national budget appeared.

"Naftogaz Ukrainy declares that all taxes and duties are paid by the company to Ukraine's national budget in full and on time. As of September 1, 2013, the company formed an advance payment on taxes and other mandatory payments worth over UAH 1.1 billion," the company said.
