DTEK Power Trade signs electricity supply contract with Belarus

KIEV, April 3 - DTEK Power Trade Ltd. and Moldova's state enterprise Energocom have agreed on a new contract for commercial supplies of Ukrainian electricity, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry reported.


Ukrainian natural gas use reported up 1.5% through end of February

KIEV, April 3 - The use of natural gas in Ukraine increased 1.5% year-on-year in January-February to 16.495 billion cubic meters (bcm), the country's Energy and Coal Industry Ministry reported.

Gas consumption in February was up 8.5% year-on-year at 8.732 bcm.


Russians to fly to Kiev to inspect Ukrainian cheese exporters

MOSCOW, April 5 - Experts of the Russian sanitary and consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor are expected to fly to Kiev early next week for a fresh round of inspection visits to Ukrainian cheese exporting companies, said Rospotrebnadzor chief Gennady Onishchenko.


Official: Ukraine may enter Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan customs union

KIEV, April 5 - Ukraine could enter the Customs Union formed by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan in July, Valeriy Muntiyan, said the Ukrainian Cabinet's special envoy for cooperation with Russia, other CIS countries and the Eurasian Economic Community.


Committee chief: Unemployed could total over one million by late 2011

KIEV, April 4 – The number of unemployed people in Ukraine by late 2011 could come to over one million people if unemployment continues to grow at today's pace, according to Natalia Korolevska, the head of the parliamentary committee for industrial and regulatory policy and entrepreneurship.


Turkmenistan invites Ukrainian cos to participate in state tenders

KIEV, April 4 – Turkmenistan has invited Ukrainian companies to participate in tenders announced by Turkmenistan's state concerns concerning the exploration and development of oil and gas fields in the country, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Trade Andriy Kliuyev said.


2011 inflation forecast revised upwards to 11.1%, government says

KIEV, April 5 – The average inflation forecast given by experts for Ukraine in 2011 was revised upwards to 11.1% (December over December) from the 10.7% forecast in November 2010, according to a posting on the Economic Development and Trade Ministry's Web site.


Finished steel roll output reported up 8% y-o-y in first quarter

KIEV, April 2 - Ukraine's steel industry boosted finished roll output 8% year-on-year in January-March to 6.755 million tons, the Industrial Policy Ministry announced.

Crude steel production jumped 16% to 8.064 million tons and pig iron grew 18% to 6.973 million tons.

Hryvnia to hold steady this year, according to top NBU advisor

KIEV, April 2 - Hryvnia exchange rate fluctuations in 2010 are to stay within the range of exchange rate fluctuations seen in 2009, according to Valeriy Lytvytsky, the head of the group of advisors to the governor of the National Bank of Ukraine.
