Construction may pick up in March, says regional development minister

KIEV, Nov. 4 – A gradual rise in construction volumes may be seen in Ukraine from March 2009, according to Ukrainian Regional Development and Construction Minister Vasyl Kuybida.


ZALK smelter resumption impossible for now, says company director

KIEV, Nov. 4 – The resumption of stable operations at Zaporizhia Aluminum Combine (ZALK), the country's only aluminum smelter, is impossible in the present conditions without settling the issue of the differentiated tariff for electricity for the company, and also depends on the situation on the international aluminum market, its director general, Oleksandr Kotiuk, told Interfax-Ukraine.


Arcelor Mittal Kriviy Rih YTD steel roll production down 18.8%

KIEV, Nov. 5 - Arcelor Mittal Kriviy Rih (formerly Kryvorizhstal), Ukraine's biggest steel producer, reduced roll production by a preliminary 18.8% year-on-year to 4.812 million tons in January-October, the company told Interfax.

Crude steel production fell 15.3% to 4.812 million tons, pig iron - 13.9% to 5.193 million tons and sinter - 13% to 8.721 million tons.


Steel industry output down 6% through October, says ministry

KIEV, Nov. 5 - Ukraine's steel industry reduced finished roll output 6% year-on-year in the first 10 months of 2008 to 28.123 million tons, the Industrial Policy Ministry told Interfax.


Pressure on hryvnia is caused by high dollar demand, says NBU leader

Coal industry ministry orders state companies to boost production

KIEV, Nov. 5 - Ukraine's Coal Industry Ministry last week ordered state coal mining companies to produce 8.5 million tons of coal in the last two months of the year, including 4.2 million tons in November and 4.3 million tons in December.
