Cabinet allocates UAH1.94 billion to Euro 2012 infrastructure

KIEV, Nov. 5 – The Cabinet of Ministers will allocate nearly UAH 1.493 billion from the state budget's stabilization fund to prepare the country's infrastructure for hosting the finals of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship.


Nafogaz successfully completes five-yr swap of $1.6 billion eurobond

KIEV, Nov. 5 - Naftogaz Ukrayiny, the national energy company, on Thursday successfully completed the transaction of swapping $1.6 billion in foreign debts into a new five-year Eurobond maturing in 2014.


EIB to loan Ukrenergo EUR150 million for station, transmission line

KIEV, Nov. 3 – The European Investment Bank will provide Ukrainian national electricity company Ukrenergo a loan of up to 150 million euro to build the 750-330-kilovolt Kakhovka substation and a 750-kilovolt transmission line from the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant to the substation.


Troubled mortgage debts up tenfold over year: credit union director

KIEV, Nov. 3 – Troubled mortgage debts over the past 12 months have grown almost tenfold, to UAH 7.2 billion, according to Ukrainian Credit and Banking Union Director General Halyna Olifer.

"Today, the total size of the mortgage portfolio of Ukrainian banks is estimated at over UAH 100 billion (almost half of the planned revenues of the national budget for 2009). Over the period from November 2008 to November 2009, bad mortgage debts grew by almost ten times.


IFC to provide $105m subordinated loan to shore up Raiffeisen branch

KIEV, Nov. 4 – The sending of a fourth tranche of Ukraine's credit from the International Monetary Fund to the budget will lead to the weakening of the hryvnia exchange rate, according to Ukrsotsbank analyst Erik Naiman.


65 Ukrainian banks operating in the red as of the end of Q3

KIEV, Nov. 5 – The number of loss-making banks in Ukraine July through September grew to 65, one up from the 64 registered in Q2.

As the National Bank of Ukraine reported, the overall net losses of the country's banking system January through September 2009 were UAH 20.944 billion, including UAH 6.623 billion in the third quarter (UAH 7.301 billion in the second quarter and UAH 7.02 billion in the first quarter).


Nadra Ukrayiny and Regal Petroleum to cooperate on oil and gas fields

KIEV, Nov. 5 – Nadra Ukrayiny and Regal Petroleum Corporation Ltd. have signed a framework agreement on advisory services and drilling at the Mekhedivsky-Holotovschynske and Svyridivske oil and gas fields, Nadra reported.


Zaporizhia plant may shut two reactors due to metal sector weakness

KIEV, Nov. 5 - Ukraine’s largest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhia, may be forced to shut down two of its six reactors in response to lower power demand from regional aluminum and steel makers, an official said Wednesday.


Natgas transit via Ukraine to Europe up 12.6% through Oct. 31

KIEV, Nov. 3 - The transit of natural gas via Ukraine to Europe increased by 12.6%, to 99.1 billion cubic meters (bcm) in January-October compared to the same period of 2007, Ukrtransgaz, the operator of the Ukrainian gas transportation system and a subsidiary of Naftogaz Ukrayiny, announced on Monday.
