Chernivtsi TV channel staff asks EU for protection from government

KIEV, Aug. 6 – The staff of the Chernivtsi TBA Regional Television Channel has sent an open letter to Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski with the request to help protect the channel, which they say the authorities are trying to destroy.

Bill calls for alcohol and tobacco excise increase to help hospital

Industrial price decline accelerates to 2.9% in July, vs. June's 2.7%

KIEV, Aug. 6 – The fall in industrial prices in Ukraine accelerated to 2.9% in July, compared to 2.7% in June, the State Statistics Service reported on Tuesday.


Largest Ukraine petrochemical company to resume operation in September

KIEV, Aug. 7 - Ukraine’s largest petrochemical company KarpatNaftoKhim, owned by Russian oil producer Lukoil, plans to resume operation in the middle of September, the company’s press service said in a statement Wednesday.


Industrial prices in Ukraine reported down by 2.9% last month

KIEV, Aug. 6 – Industrial prices in Ukraine in July fell by 2.9%, and as a result their growth in annual terms slowed to 1.4%, down from 4.5% in June 2012, according to the State Statistics Service.

Industrial prices in January-June 2012 grew by 2.6%.


Ukraine sees deflation for third month in July, government reports

KIEV, Aug. 6 - Ukraine saw 0.2% deflation in July, the State Statistics Service reported.

Deflation in Ukraine in 2012 was observed for the third month in a row: in May and June the figure was 0.3%.

KIEV, Aug. 7 – Almost unrestricted access to the gas transport system (GTS) of Ukraine will be opened up via the reorganization and privatization of Ukrtransgaz, a subsidiary of national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrayiny, according to a newspaper article published this week.


More banks became unprofitable in second quarter, according to NBU

KIEV, Aug. 7 – The number of unprofitable banks in Ukraine in Q2 grew to 19, or to 11% of the total number of operating credit and financial institutions in the country, the National Bank of Ukraine reported.
