Government moves to lift ban on privatization of gas pipeline system

KIEV, April 26 - The government seeks to obtain the right to sell the country’s vast natural gas pipeline system that moves Russian gas to markets in Europe, according to a bill submitted to Parliament on Friday.


Ukrtelecom hemorrhaging hryvnias ahead of privatization selloff

KIEV, April 26 – Even as the government prepares to sell off the state monopoly, Ukrtelecom is hemorrhaging money.

According to a company quarterly report posted at the State Commission for Securities and the Stock Market, the company saw net losses more than quintuple year-over year, to UAH 200.23 million.


SPF chief predicts UAH6 billion proceeds from electric privatizations

KIEV, April 27 – The State Property Fund expects to obtain UAH 6 billion from the sale of state-owned stakes in two electricity generating companies and nine electricity supply companies in 2011, SPF head Oleksandr Riabchenko said at a meeting of an ad hoc parliamentary commission for privatization held in Kiev on Wednesday.


Moody’s to maintain negative outlook on most CIS banking systems

KIEV, April 26 - Moody's Investors Service will likely maintain a negative outlook for most of the banking systems in the 12 countries within the Commonwealth of Independent States, according to an agency report which analyses the credit trends and outlooks of the Baltic States and Eastern Europe.


Proposed Ukraine 2010 budget relies heavily on external borrowing

KIEV, April 28 – Ukraine's direct state borrowing in 2010 is expected at UAH 100.3 billion, including UAH 34.1 billion in foreign loans, according to a draft law on the national budget for 2010 published on Monday.


IUD agrees with Lebanon’s Litat Group on possible metal supply deal

KIEV, April 28 – The Donetsk-based Industrial Union of Donbas (IUD) has agreed with Lebanon's Litat Group on the possibility to supply around five million tons of metal products to the Middle East and Asia, including 3.6 million tons of square blooms and 1.2 million tons of slab.


Ukrainian government proposes increase in cigarette, alcohol excises

KIEV, April 28 – The Ukrainian government has proposed to increase the excise duty on beer by 23.3%, the minimum excise duty on filtered cigarettes by 30.4%, the excise duty on wine by 10 times and increase duty on liquor and vodka, though by less than 10 times.


Russian energy minister expresses interest in retail gas market

MOSCOW, April 28 - Russia remains interested in operations on Ukraine's retail gas market, Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko told journalists.

"Without a doubt, we are interested in entering Ukraine's retail market," he said.

DTEK to export 200 MW of electricity to Hungary at wholesale rate

KIEV, April 28 – Donbas Fuel-Energy Company (DTEK) M&A and Strategy Director Vitaliy Butenko said that his company is ready to export up to 200 MW of Ukrainian electricity to Hungary at prices of the Ukrainian wholesale electricity market, the company's press service has reported, citing M&A and strategy director at DTEK.
