Ukraine may face another banking crisis this fall, says businessman
KIEV, May 28 – Ukraine could expect for another wave of the banking liquidity crisis this fall, according to Ukrainian businessman and UPEK Industrial Group President Anatoliy Girshfeld.
"The problem of bad credits has not been taken off the agenda, it would only come to the fore... The next wave of the banking liquidity crisis will be linked with the accumulated non-return of credits, and it should be discussed in the fall of 2009. |
Some 2,000 Rivneazot workers face layoff following natgas cutoff
RIVNE, May 28 – Around 40% of the employees of Rivneazot, or 2,000 people, may lose their jobs due to what critics say is the political pressure by the government and Naftogaz Ukrayiny via the cutoff of natural gas deliveries to the plant, a source in Rivne city council said. |
Bank official: Foreign direct investment could hit $10b this year
KIEV, May 27 – Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Ukraine in 2008 could grow to $10 billion, while in Q1 total FDI was $2.4 billion, Executive Director on Economic Issues of Ukrainian National Bank Ihor Shumylo said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine during the first Ukrainian investment forum "Investments in construction and real estate" in Kiev on Tuesday.

Azarov committee cites ‘threatening’ foreign trade deficit trend
KIEV, May 28 – The deficit of Ukraine's balance of foreign trade in exceeded $5 billion in Q1, and at the end of the year the deficit could reach $19-20 billion, according to a statement of the parliamentary committee for finance and banking activities issued headed by opposition leader, MP Mykola Azarov. |
