Strong April numbers bring Ukraine payments balance to zero, says NBU
KIEV, May 28 – The positive trends in Ukraine's balance of payments in March were reinforced in April, which brought the country close to a point of absolute balance over the four months ending April 2012, said Valeriy Lytvytsky, the head of the group of advisors to the National Bank of Ukraine governor. |
Russia’s RusAl to appeal court ruling canceling ZAlK purchase
KIEV, May 26 – The RusAl company (Russia) will challenge in the Higher Economic Court of Ukraine a verdict of Kiev Economic Court of Appeals, which upheld a ruling of the court of lower instance on the cancellation of an agreement on the sale and purchase of a 68.015 stake in opened joint-stock company Zaporizhia Aluminum Smelter (ZAlK) and the return of the stake to the state.

Ukraine and US scheduling SS-24 fuel disposal work at Pavlohrad
KIEV, May 28 – Ukraine and the United States are working out a schedule of work at a joint facility being built at the Pavlohrad Chemical Plant in Dnipropetrovsk region as part of the program to dispose of solid rocket fuel from SS-24 intercontinental ballistic missiles. |
Cabinet allocates UAH250 million to refund Soviet-era deposits
KIEV, May 26 – The Ukrainian cabinet has allocated UAH250 million to reimburse defaulted Soviet-era deposits in Sberbank and Gosstrakh.
A total of UAH 87million would be sent to depositors who have not received refunding of no more than UAH1,000 per depositor, as foreseen in a cabinet resolution of Jan. 9, 2008, in the order that they submitted information to the register of defaulted Soviet-era depositors. |
Rivneazot forced to cease sewage plant operation after gas shutoff
KIEV, May 27 – Rivneazot, one of the largest chemical companies in Ukraine, has had to cease operation of its sewage treatment plants due to the full stoppage of natural gas deliveries to the company, a source at the company told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.
The source said that the plant treated around 70% of the sewage in Rivne.
"The present situation is critical," he said. |
