Ukraine looking at Chinese and US companies to complete Khmelnitskiy

KIEV, Nov. 9 - Ukraine may tap Chinese firms or multinational companies like Westinghouse to finish construction of two nuclear power reactors at Khmelnytskiy after renouncing a deal with Russia, Energy and Coal Industry Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn said Monday.


Ukraine launches antidumping probe into Russian caustic soda

KIEV, Nov. 7 – Ukraine's Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade has satisfied a claim filed by PJSC Dniproazot and launched an antidumping investigation against imports of commercial-grade (grade RD) caustic coda (the UKTVED code in Ukraine's commodity classification for foreign economic activity is 2815 12 00 10) from Russia.


NBU may tighten controls to defend currency rather than tap reserves

KIEV, Nov. 9 - Ukraine's central bank chief Valeriya Hontareva said on Sunday the bank would implement tougher administrative measures to defend the faltering hryvnia if needed, rather than drawing further on its severely depleted foreign currency reserves, Reuters reported.


Inflation in Ukraine down to 2.4% in October, from September's 2.9%

KIEV, Nov. 6 - Inflation in Ukraine slowed to 2.4% in October compared to 2.9% in September, but it is still significantly higher than 0.8% in August and 0.4% in July.


Naftogaz receives Gazprom invoice for advance Russian gas payment

KIEV, Nov. 7 – NJSC Naftogaz confirms that it has received an invoice from Russia's OAO Gazprom to effect advance payment for Russian gas.

At the same time, the company will transfer advance payment to Gazprom depending on ordered amounts of gas. "The amount and schedule of advance payment depend on how much and when Naftogaz will order gas from Gazprom," the press service said.


GDP up 5.3%, industrial production gains 9%, through Oct. 31, says PM

KIEV, Nov. 9 – Ukraine's gross domestic product in January-October 2011 grew by 5.3% compared to the same period in 2010, while industrial production rose by 9%, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said.

"Inflation is close to zero for the third month," he said, while opening a Cabinet of Ministers meeting in Kiev on Wednesday.


Winter grain crops expected to suffer after drought, cold snap

KIEV, Nov. 9 – Only 20% of Ukraine's winter grain crops will survive the winter, according to Tetiana Adamenko, the head of the agrarian meteorology department at the Ukrainian Weather Center.

KIEV, Nov. 8 – The State Property Fund expects to obtain at least UAH 2.5 billion from the sale of a 45.103% stake in Zakhidenergo and a 25% stake in Kyivenergo, SPF head Oleksandr Riabchenko said.

Energy agency projects EUR400 million 2011 solar and wind investments

KIEV, Nov. 9 – The National Agency of Ukraine on Ensuring the Efficient Use of Energy Resources Management (NAER) says it expects EUR 400 million in investment in the Ukrainian wind and solar energy sectors in 2011, NAER head Mykola Pashkevych said at a press conference in Kiev on Tuesday.
