KIEV, Jan. 6 – The Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry plans to raise $1 billion of investment in 2016 to restore irrigation systems in southern Ukraine.


Three insurances companies to get licenses pulled due to Russian ties

KIEV, Jan. 6 – Ukraine's national commission for financial service markets regulation plans to annul insurance licenses of double liability Allianz Ukraine Insurance Company, private joint-stock Guta-Ukraine Insurance Company (both based in Kiev) and private joint-stock Guarantee Life Insurance Company (Kharkiv), citing the fact that residents of Russia own corporate rights in the companies and control them.


Cabinet orders study of UAH1.8 billion Bar compressor station project

KIEV, Jan. 6 – The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a feasibility study for reconstruction of the Bar compressor station of the Soyuz gas pipeline (Bar district, Vinnytsia region).


Trade group: Ukraine could export 13m tons of grain in January-June

KIEV, Jan. 10 – Ukraine in the second half of the 2011/12 agricultural year (January-June) could export 12.5-13 million tons of grain crops, according to Serhiy Stoyanov, the director general of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation.


Metinvest Group reports mining 34.6 million tons of iron ore in 2011

KIEV, Jan. 10 – The Metinvest Group's iron ore mining and enrichment enterprises produced, according to operational results, 34.674 million tons of iron ore concentrate and 12.52 million tons of pellets last year.


DTEK to acquire state 45% Zakhidenergo stake for UAH1.932 billion

KIEV, Jan. 10 - DTEK Holdings Ltd (Cyprus) will acquire a state-owned 45.103% stake in public joint-stock company Zakhidenergo, an electricity generating company, for the earlier proposed sum of UAH 1.932 billion.


Akmetov holding company wins tender for Donetskoblenergo stake

KIEV, Jan. 11 - DTEK, which is controlled by Rinat Akhmetov, has won a tender for a 40.061% stake in Donetskoblenergo, offering UAH 467.6 million for the stake.

Initially, DTEK proposed UAH 449.6 million for the stake and its rival - Luhansk Energy Association controlled by businessman Konstantin Grigorishin – bid UAH 449.5 million.


Ukraine to try to boost domestic steel demand as external demand lags

KIEV, Jan. 11 - Ukraine will seek to stimulate domestic demand for its steel, mostly in housing and infrastructure projects, as weaker external demand has been affecting many of its companies, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said Wednesday.
