ZAlk suspends electrolysis, to stop production of aluminum next month

KIEV, April 11 - Zaporizhia aluminum plant (ZALK), which is 97.6% owned by Russia's RUSAL, has started completion of temporary closing-down the electrolysis facility and from May the plant will stop production of virgin aluminium due to its unprofitability.


Cabinet approves UAH4.9 billion for power transmission lines

KIEV, April 11 – The cabinet has approved a project on the construction of the Zaporizhia NPP-Kakhovska 750 kV power transmission line, the 330 kV Novokakhovksa substation-Ostrovska substation line and Novokakhovksa substation-Khersonska substation line worth UAH 4.893 billion.


NBU chairman says he’s not worried about March inflation pickup

KIEV, April 8 – The acceleration of inflation in March to 1.4% from 0.9% in February poses no threat to macroeconomic stability, according to of the National Bank of Ukraine Chairman Serhiy Arbuzov.


Moody’s assigns B3 rating to Ferrexpo $500m 7.875% 5yr notes

KIEV, April 8 - Moody's Investors Service has assigned a B3 rating to Ferrexpo's new $500 million 7.875% senior unsecured notes due April 7, 2016.

As Moody's said in a statement, all other ratings of the group remain unchanged. The outlook on all ratings is stable.


Construction to start in May for Kiev rail link to Boryspil

KIEV, April 8 – The State Agency for Investment and Management of National Investment Projects expects to start realizing a project to build a rail link between the city of Kiev and Boryspil International Airport in May.


USDA lowers 2010-2011 grain export forecast by one million tons

KIEV, April 8 – The United States Department of Agriculture has again lowered its forecast for the export of grain from Ukraine in the current marketing year (July 2010 through June 2011) by one million tons from the forecast given last month, to 11.63 million tons.


NBU advisor bullish on industrial price growth acceleration

KIEV, April 9 – The acceleration of industrial price growth in Ukraine to 3% in March from 1.9% in January and February is evidence of a rise in economic activity last month, according to Valeriy Lytvytsky, the head of the group of advisors to the National Bank of Ukraine's governor.


US-based Supatcha Resources secures financing for Ukraine gold mines

KIEV, April 8 – U.S.-based Supatcha Resources Inc. has executed an agreement with Melco Investments, Ltd. (MIL), providing for a $10-million financing to fund gold mines in Ukraine, the U.S. company said in a statement.


EnergoAtom loads 42 Westinghouse fuel assemblies at Yuzhnoukrainsk

KIEV, April 8 – EnergoAtom has loaded 42 fuel assemblies supplied by U.S.-based Westinghouse in the core of the third reactor of the Yuzhnoukrainsk nuclear power plant, EnergoAtom President Yuriy Nedashkovsky said at an official event in Kiev on Thursday.


Mariupol Illich Steel Mill director decries growing VAT debt

KIEV, April 9 – Debt for VAT reimbursements is continuing to grow, which threatens Mariupol Illich Steel Mill’s stable operation, chairman and director general Volodymyr Boiko said.

"At present UAH 1.5 billion has been drained from the mill's circulating capital due to the non-reimbursement of VAT. The issue has been raised with the cabinet jointly with Donetsk Region Governor Anatoliy Blyzniuk.
