Fitch downgrades DTEK Energy rating following loan defaults

KIEV, March 11 - Fitch Ratings has downgraded DTEK Energy B.V.'s (DTEK) Long-term Issuer Default Rating to 'RD' (Restricted Default) from 'C', as Fitch understands from management that the company is in the payment default under several bank loans due to uncured expiry of the grace period on some bank debt.

April gas rate hikes critical, according to Naftogaz Ukrayiny

KIEV, March 12 - Naftogaz Ukrayiny has noted the critical importance of another increase in gas tariffs for the population in April as stipulated in Ukraine's memorandum with the International Monetary Fund.


Individual hryvnia deposits up slightly in February, NBU reports

KIEV, March 12 - Individual deposits in the national currency (excluding insolvent banks) in February increased by 0.3% (3% down year-on-year), to UAH 180.082 billion, while deposits in foreign currency decreased by 0.2% (0.3% up since the beginning of the year), to $8.637 billion (in U.S. dollars), according to the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

KIEV, March 12 – Ukraine's Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the demand made by the Prosecutor General's Office that a controlling 68.01% stake in OJSC Zaporizhia aluminum plant, or ZALK, be returned to state ownership.


Kobolov’s IMF talks will lead to default, says ex-finance minister

KIEV, March 13 – Finance Minister Yuriy Kolobov's visit to Washington to negotiate the restructuring of Ukraine's debt to the International Monetary Fund will give other creditors the right to demand that Kiev repay other loans early, and will consequently lead to a technical default, according to Ihor Umansky, member of the political council of the Ukrainian Social Democratic Party and former finance minister.


Natural gas production reported up 2.3% through end of February

KIEV, March 15 - Ukraine saw gas production rise by 74.4 million cubic meters or 2.3% in January-February 2012 year-on-year, to 3.373 billion cubic meters (bcm), with natural gas output rising by 2.4% or by 76.8 million cubic meters, to 3.239 bcm, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry reported.
